PV mountings pass the test
GB-Sol’s roof-integrated mounting system already meets the major requirements from the MCS who have just published a new standard for mounting systems - MCS012 – with which manufacturers must comply in 18 months. GB-Sol has developed its roof integration system (RIS) over the last 17 years and was a partner in the development of methods of testing PV roof mountings. This commitment to research and development has been the core of GB-Sol culture and means that their products have been tested to levels above and beyond those required by MCS both in regards to wind uplift and rain penetration. The Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) is focused on ensuring the quality of renewable technology installations and products. www.microgenerationcertification.org
Bruce Cross of GB-Sol the independent UK manufacturer of PV modules based in South Wales commented: “Working with BRE as partners in the Eur-active roofer project, our RIS was used to develop the tests which inject dense tropical rain in the horizontal airstream from a wind tunnel at the roof, while simultaneously imposing a vacuum behind the roof. This simulates the very worst-case conditions and shows that our system is completely watertight even when rain is leaking through the surrounding tiles or slates.
“Installers who buy the GB-Sol PV roof kits get a market leading product with the longest UK track record at a cost-effective price. They have been reporting back to us that the total time of installing the integrated system on a new-build development is much less than that to install an over roof system. When combined with the savings on roof coverings, the total project cost for our RIS is often cheaper than an overtile system.”
